Aftercare: Caring for a deceased pet
Pet parents often wonder what aftercare options they have for a pet that passed away. Take a little bit of time to think about whether you would like to take care of the cremation arrangements yourself or if you prefer for me to organize it for you. If you trust your beloved companion with me, I promise you that I will treat your pet's body with the utmost respect and dignity and so will everyone involved in the aftercare process.
If you choose to have your beloved pet cremated through my practice, you have two options: communal or private cremation. The cost of cremation will depend on weight and on the type of cremation you choose.
Private Cremation:
By electing this type of cremation, your pet will be cremated alone and the ashes will be returned to you. The crematory has its standard presentation of the ashes but also offers the option for you to choose a special urn, if you prefer. Depending on your personal preference you can either keep the ashes, scatter or bury them.
Communal Cremation:
Your cherished companion will be cremated along with other beloved pets. The ashes will be buried on a beautiful piece of land overlooking the serene shore of Graham lake. You are welcome to return to your pet's final resting place and take a walk around the park-like setting in memoriam of your passed pet friend.
Home burial:
If the temperatures and season permit it, home burial is an option as well, if you would like to keep your deceased pet close to you after our visit. Please consult the city by-laws prior to the burial. The optimal burial depth is between 3 to 5 feet.
If you cannot bury your cherished pets within a few hours, please keep them in a cold area. When burying, wrap your pet in a blanket or use a wooden/cardboard box. Avoid using any kind of plastics. Use a headstone, decorative piece, or rocks to mark the burial site. This will also discourage other animals from disturbing it.
